Gear carts are included in every rental!

Don’t want to deal with the hassle of bringing your own canoe? Murtle Lake Canoe Rentals is the solution. Book your canoe in advance and enjoy your vacation instead of worrying about logistics of hauling your own canoe.  All rentals include the use of a gear cart or wagon to transport your gear from the parking lot to the lagoon where your canoe will be waiting.
No more roof racks or canoe carts!

Booking a rental is easy. Just click on the “book now” tab at the top of the page ! Payments are made via Paypal for your convenience and security.

PLEASE NOTE: The pick up and drop off time for rentals is 11:00 a.m. at the Murtle Lake lagoon. What does that mean for you?

    You have to leave Blue River by 9am

in order to make it to the Parking lot by 10 am

    in order to be at the lagoon by 11am.

    How to find us:

    Murtle Lake is accessed by travelling highway 5 to Blue River and then following a twisting, rough gravel road 27 km to the portage parking lot. This is where you leave your vehicle, and transfer your gear down a 2.5 km trail to the lagoon launch, WHERE YOU PAY YOUR CAMPING FEES at the self registration station.

    Hellman Canoes are hand built in Nelson, BC. They are light, fast and track very well – this is a premium canoe that, according to canoe magazines, ranks with the top brands in the world.These canoes are not for beginners! Some previous experience in a canoe is required. If you haven’t paddled before, Murtle is not the lake to start on.

    Even if you have paid your BC Parks camping fees online, you must fill out a registration envelope (including your online payment number), take the tear off number with you, and put the envelope in the vault.
  • About Murtle Lake

    Campsites
    Camping Locations: There are 19 designated camping locations. Please note Strait Creek campsite is now #19. (The previous campsite #19, shown on old maps, is closed). Also, Fairyslipper Island is closed to camping, but available for picnics and swimming. There is a maintained outhouse on the island. No fires allowed.
    Capacity: approximately 70 canoes (2-4 people each)

    Campsites: $5 per person per night, children under 6 are free. Pay by cash (preferred) or traveller’s cheque or pre-pay online at discovercamping.bc

    location
    Murtle Lake is accessed by travelling Highway 5 to Blue River and then following a twisting, rough gravel road 27 km to the portage parking lot.     The lake is still a further 1.5 km away; you paddle through the lagoon to it. Or, you can hike the trail into Campsite 1 for an overnight stay or just a look at part of the lake.

    Facilities
    Fire rings (please do not move the fire rings), outhouses, bear-proof food caches. There will be toilet paper in the outhouses.

    Average Use
    10 groups per night June and September; 20 per night July; 45 per night August (2 – 4 people per group).

    What to see
    The West Arm, the North Arm, large groups of loons, abundant wildlife, the view from a spectacular hike (there are at least 8 great ones), spawning Kokanee in the streams in fall, and incomparable Murtle sunsets!

    Campsites are patrolled and maintained.

    As a courtesy a small amount of unsplit firewood may be provided for each campsite.
    You will need to bring an axe or wedge for splitting.

    No sani-dump.

    Sorry, they won't work.
    If you have a GPS and wish to program in the coordinates for the Ranger cabin it is at 52.09956N 119.70514W

    radio
    You'll only get reception if you have a very good radio.

    ammenities
    No amenities. This is a wilderness location. Nearest amenities are in Blue River.

General Cancellation Policies

Full payment required at time of booking.

If you must cancel your rental and we receive your notice:

more than 30 days prior to trip departure: full refund minus 25% deposit
29-7 days prior to trip departure: 50% refund
7 days or less prior to trip departure, we will offer a 20% credit towards your next trip.

MurtleCanoes. com reserves the right to cancel any trip prior to departure due to unusual or unforeseen circumstances outside of our reasonable control, for any reason including but not limited to; safety threats such as natural disasters or logistical problems that may impede the safe offering of a rental.
MurtleCanoes will offer a full refund, or a full credit towards a future rental in this case only.

MurtleCanoes will make every reasonable effort to contact you as soon as possible if it appears that a trip may be cancelled.

MurtleCanoes is not responsible for any incidental expenses or consequential losses that are incurred as a result of the cancelled booking such as, but not limited to, non-refundable plane tickets or other travel costs, equipment, etc.
